Australia VS Out of Africa

Some producer/director teams do a good job of bringing oldies back to life. Bringing them spice.

Like when Guber-Peters/Tim Burton's Batman Saga was reawakened by Rovan-Thomas/Christopher Nolan. Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson made it a classic, but Christian Bale and Heath Ledger brought the time-worn story to a new generation.

A bad example of remaking classics is the forgettable Australia done by Brown-Knapman/Baz Luhrmann starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. There were strong players on the team. Not only did they have strong principals; but Hollywood veteran G Mac Brown had numerous successes in titles like She-Devil, Scent of a Woman, You've Got Mail, Anna and the King, Unfaithful, The Interpreter, and Public Enemies. The young partners Knapman and Luhrmann also did Musical Sensation 'Moulin Rouge' together. But apparently the team weren't ready to take on trying to remake the classic Oscar winning film 'Out of Africa'.

There were only a few changes in sub-plots and scenery. But I was expecting so much more of their acting ability, technological advances, and plot direction considering the killer team and the 23 years of Hollywood's Film Progressions. I did not enjoy the 2008 Australia. I give it a two thumbs down unfortunately. Watching them in the same year, I still very much prefer the prior original film. Just because Oprah liked it, doesn't mean it's a great film. Some ladies just love the Australian face of Hugh Jackman. It was a flop. Don't go to the theaters or rent it. Thank you for trying, but NEXT PLEASE.
